Remedy Drive Joins Hands with Community for Benefit Concert

Ringing in the New Year will be celebrated in many different ways, but for Remedy Drive it will start with helping a family raise money. The group will participate in a benefit concert for Aaron and Jennifer Thompson who are adopting orphaned siblings from the Philippines.

The event will be held at Freeman Academy in Freeman, South Dakota on January 1, 2009. Remedy Drive will join with the Thompson family, friends and local businesses to help in this community effort.

"I get very excited about doing something that is going to benefit children," says David Zach, lead singer for Remedy Drive. "Being able to rally with a whole community to help a family make even one child's life better, brings all of us in Remedy Drive joy. We are grateful to be given this opportunity to get beside this family in helping them accomplish their goal."

"We are really trusting God to make this all work out since we know this is what He wants," said Jennifer Thompson. "It will totally be worth all the work."

Remedy Drive Continues its Quest of Hope

Creighton has become an annual stop for Christian rock band Remedy Drive, but Sunday's show will be a little different than in previous years.

When brothers David, Paul, Phillip and Daniel Zach perform at Faith, Hope and Love Fellowship, they'll be performing as artists on the Word Records roster.

While being on the Nashville label co-owned by Warner Music Group and Curb Records hasn't changed Remedy Drive's music, the Lincoln-based band has and will continue to increase the band's audience nationally.

"There have been big changes, but at the same time, we're still doing what we do. And that's working hard," David Zach told the Daily News this week. "We're still trying to win people over, one fan at a time."

Zach said he's seeing more fans singing along to the music than ever before. Remedy Drive's first album on Word was released in late August, and the first single "Daylight Is Coming" - also the title track - reached more than a million listeners in one month.

Remedy Drive Plays for Hope

David Zach, the lead singer and guitarist for Remedy Drive, said in a phone interview, “I would hope that when we come to Eureka next week that for an hour we can put aside our worries about the economy and the war, and we can come together and celebrate the fact that we have a second chance. Not to worry about our failure, not to worry about tomorrow.” That’s what he thinks a rock concert should do.

Something More Than Rock

Remedy Drive is bringing its message of hope to Rapid City this weekend. And the band wants to know if you are ready to hear it.

“We are four guys that are searching for truth,” said David Zach. “What we have arrived at is an album with a message of hope.

“People need to just enjoy themselves for an hour, to get away from the broken economy, natural disaster, mortgages — to leave with a massive momentum in their lives that no matter what is happening in their lives, there is hope.”

Remedy Drive is four brothers from Lincoln, Neb. — David, Paul, Philip and Daniel Zach — who have hit the big time this year with a record deal. But they’ve been at this for a while, making music rather than watching TV as they were growing up, and turning that energy into a band that has been touring for 200 shows a year for the past five years. They have been playing at churches, youth rallies, college campuses and festivals. Now, they are touring and promoting their fourth album, “Daylight Is Coming.”

What’s different now that they have a record deal?

“There’s a real celebratory sprit from our fans who have been there for the long haul,” David Zach said. “They are celebrating for us, and we feel that energy about what is to come.”

Their music is unmistakably rock, with heavy piano, harmonies created from brothers’ voices and lyrics taking direct aim at what’s real and lasting, where real hope is found: “Darkness must precede the dawn; wait with me here till the sunrise; wait, your night will soon fade out; daylight is coming.”

It's no surprise these days when great new artists emerge from America's breadbasket. From Slipknot to Disturbed to Atmosphere, the Midwest is a hotbed for musical creativity in all genres. The latest group to stake their claim as the Midwest's next big thing is Lincoln, Nebraska's own Remedy Drive. Under various names the group released six independent albums successfully and cultivated a strong local following before finally making the jump to a major label in 2008 to release their national debut Daylight Is Coming. The album wastes little time showcasing why this band of four real life brothers was a hot prospect with their opening track "Stand Up." Paul Zach's energetic guitar riffs provide the perfect accompaniment to lead singer David Zach's brash call to "get up off the ground" and take command of life. "Daylight" is equally strong but has more of a pop sensibility, with a sound that could easily be featured on any of the CW's youth oriented programming.

And they're from Nebraska.

Meet Remedy Drive, the band of four brothers from Lincoln who will be rocking the stage at Le Mars Assembly of God Church at 6:30 p.m. Sunday for a free concert.

The newly-signed rock group has been playing together since five years ago, when they decided to quit their jobs roofing and washing windows and see if they could make it as a band.

One might think that Remedy Drive managed to fly under the radar due to the ubiquity of another brother act (think Nick, Joe and Kevin). And while it might be true that the four Zachs aren't yet a household name like the Jonas Brothers, it isn't unreasonable to see it coming true at some point. They have the talent, the look, and the drive (inevitable pun).
